The following projects are just a selection of my work. They are representative of the skills I can bring to bear upon a task. For a complete selection of my work skills, please see my experience page.

Associated Planners Solar Services
Insurance Premium Calculator

This is a product targeted to Windows 95, 98 and NT 4+ platforms, it is intended for use by insurance agents affiliated with Associated Planners. It allows them to calculate Life, Trauma and Tpd premiums for the Solar Risk Product based on input client details. The software calculates multi-life policies and creates fully compliant reports.

I am responsible for specifications, design and development.

Associated Planners Comparator
Insurance Premium Comparison Software

The "Comparator" is another product specifically written for use by Associated Planners agents. It compares insurance products from 16 different companies. It can compare a variety of Disability, Life, Trauma and TPD policies and also boasts a comprehensive benefit comparison module.

Because each insurance company stores data and calculates premiums in different ways, data and calculations are managed by COM objects that are loaded during the calculation phase. The software is designed so that the interface to the comparator functionality is transparent and a web interface could be substituted and the entire application accessed over the internet or intranet.

I was responsible for specifications, design and development. I am also responsible for ongoing regular updates and modifications.

Sentek Pty Ltd
Diviner 2000 Utilities

This software was developed to download, restore and export data gathered with a Soil Analysis tool called the Diviner.

The software communicates via the PC's serial port with the Diviner unit and uses a specialised protocol when sending and receiving data and system files.

I was responsible for specifications, design and development.

See the hardware on the Sentek website.

Waterstone Leisure Ltd
DragonDROP

DragonDROP is a utility that was developed to store commonly used phrases, passwords etc. which can then be dropped into virtually any application.

The primary purpose of the software was to allow ease of use when filling in repetitive forms on the Internet.

I created the concept, designed, developed and marketed this software.

Waterstone Leisure Ltd
Internet Reminders

This software detects when an internet connection has been established and reminds the user about any tasks to complete whilst on the internet. Shortcuts and text files can be dropped onto the interface and reminders quickly created. It can also connect to FrontPage reminders and tasks.

I created the concept, designed, developed and marketed this software.

Travellers Interests
Oceans of Adventure

These brochures were designed, created and published by me. They are 20 page full colour travel brochures.

All of the enclosed itineraries were either costed and created by me or were negotiated as major re-sale deals, badged with the Travellers Interests logo.

Travellers Interests
Acacia Expeditions - Egypt and the Horn of Africa

This brochure was designed and created by me. The enclosed expeditions to Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia were researched, designed, costed and scheduled by me as well.

Maddox Broadcast
AdPlay 2

The AdPlay suite of software was developed for the emerging (at the time) UK cable industry allowing insertion of digital adverts into an MPEG-2 transport stream.

The software was intended to be used to schedule, manage and insert digital adverts into the cable stream at multiple headends.

I was instrumental in the specifications for this suite and conceptualised many of the resultant technologies now in use. I was then responsible for the design and development of the software.

Scheduling Station

  • The scheduling station could manage multiple regions and availability.

  • Master avails could be created according to headend, channel, day and time.

  • The masters could be based on advance availability, dispersion patterns or on special programming needs.

  • The user could drill down to specific individual or groups of avails and manually manage the spots within avails, either individually or as groups, locking spots, moving adverts around, altering windows and triggers.

  • The scheduling station was also responsible for communicating with the various headends, providing playout schedules to the headends and retrieving the validated playout list for reconciling with Traffic, Billing & invoicing.

Traffic & Billing Station

The traffic and billing station is intended to be used by the marketing department within the cable television industry. The T&B station managed advertisers accounts and created complex advertising campaigns to be digitally inserted into the transport stream. It communicated with the scheduling station to disperse an advertising campaign across targeted regions, channels, days and times.
